Caribbean Lottery Supports the Return of Barbuda’s Caribana Festival

June 10, 2019 – St. John’s, Antigua: The island of Barbuda came alive from June 7 to 10, as the Caribana Festival got underway. The Caribbean Lottery was proud to be a sponsor of the Festival and established a welcome presence at the Caribana City on Barbuda during the event.

Chairman of the Caribana Festival Committee Yannick Beazer expressed his gratitude to the Caribbean Lottery for their support and for having confidence in the island, where residents have not fully returned to normal after the devastation of Hurricane Irma in 2017.

“The Festival was postponed last year,” Mr. Beazer noted. “We are still bringing everything back to what it was before the hurricane. This year, we wanted to bring back some fun to the island. Sunday was a family day for us. For the Monday morning J’ouvert event, we were happy to welcome an artiste from Dominica.”

The theme of Caribana Festival 2019 was “Cultural Attractions and Our Cuisine.” In addition to the musical offerings and parades, the festivities featured traditional local cuisine at a beach event on Saturday, June 8, including local vendors and a “cook-off” competition. Barbuda is famous for its seafood, including crab and lobster, as well as venison burgers.

“At Caribbean Lottery, we are always happy to support our local and regional culture,” said Ms Paula Williams, Site Operations Manager at Caribbean Lottery. “We are pleased to celebrate the return of Caribana to the lovely island of Barbuda, which suffered so much during and after Hurricane Irma.”

Ms. Williams also added “We sponsored the First Prize for the Calypso King in 2017 and had planned to do the same in 2018. This year, we sponsored the Festival band, under the management of Gavin Christopher, which played throughout the festivities. This is such a vibrant event; we look forward to it bouncing back even better next year.”
